  • Why I Ate a Cheeseburger for Breakfast

Today, for the first time ever, I'm giving blood. Honestly, I don't really want to. I have this thing with veins. It's not the needle. Give me a good ole tetanus shot any day! I practically love that epidural needle! Anyway, it's the idea that something is coming out of my veins that bugs me. I don't like it when stuff goes IN the vein either. After 5 c-sections I STILL would hide the arm with the IV under the blanket so I would stop thinking about it and make myself light headed. I'm halfway lightheaded RIGHT NOW just thinking about it.

So, why am I doing it?? Well, Alex's middle school is having a drive and the kids get a special treat if they get someone to go and give blood today. Steven started training for his new job yesterday (yay!) so he can't go. That leaves me. Of course, I caved to Alex's begging and pleading and constant handing me the form to sign up.  Don't get me wrong, I don't always cave. I probably cave way less than a lot of parents, but on this one I couldn't justify not doing it because of my own fears. It's a good thing to do. I think. Maybe. I'll let you know later.

Here's a random photo of Oliver when we were driving kids to school.

Ain't he cute with his pants leg all wonky and his backyardigans book? I thought so.

  • Good for you.  That is a very nice thing to do.

  • You'll do fine! I hate getting blood drawn too. I have nearly fainted various times and now I actually lay down sometimes while they draw the blood. If you don't feel too stupid doing that, it helps.  Anyway, just look away and chat with the nurse while she is drawing blood and it will be over shortly.  Good for you for facing one of your fears!  I'm sure Alex will be proud. Or not. But still, you DID it!!

  • Yes he is very cute with that adorable little profile and nose looking up and out of the window, too!  :)

Wow, you are brave in giving blood.  I hope it all works out for you.  My brother gives blood and faints.  One time as he came to, he got mad because the older- lady nurse stood there and said to him, THIS is why the WOMEN have the babies!  LOL  LOL

  • So jealous! I hate the idea of things going in and out of my veins as well but one thing I always wanted to do was give blood. When I was 16 I made 2 bad choices of getting tattoos that were not done in a shop, now I am not allowed to give blood. I am excited to hear how your adventure went.

  • Good for you! and a great excuse to eat a cheeseburger for breakfast. :0)

  • @HUMOR_ME_NOW - @appalolly - @purpleamethyst76 - @Foodhog - @momidazed -  In an anticlimactic turn of events I was not allowed to give blood because my iron is too low, ha! Oh well.

And you're right Audrey, Alex pretty much was just glad to get out of class and have a snack, he wasn't really impressed with my attempting to overcome the fears. haha

  • So, hurry up and get back here and tell us you survived. ;)  I tried giving blood once and had to fudge my weight so that I could donate.  Then my iron level showed low so I still couldn't.  Wouldn't be a problem anymore, but I think you have to be in country for a couple of years which means I'm out for the count again.  Sometime I AM going to do it.

  • @smilesbymiles - LOL, I JUST DID. ha.  My iron was too low . . . . Sheez louise! I took a vitamin, and I ate the cheeseburger for breakfast. What's a gal to do??

  • I'm glad none of that stuff gets to me. My husband isn't fond of needles at all!

  • all your guys are cute.

Woo Hoo for new job--woo hoo for you being brave enough to give blood.

  • he's adorable :) and wow! good for you...i gave blood once, and probably will never do it again!!! nearly fainted and felt so sick afterwords :( hopefully you do better than i did!!!!

  • i hope the blood draw has gone well. that's something i aspire to do, but with the way i cannot stand needles, i'm not sure it's realistic to have that on my bucket list. i tried once and thought i was going to pass out just stepping in the room, so, that was that.
cheeseburger for breakfast? hmmm...i could get into that somedays. being's i don't usually eat before close to noon, i guess that could work, right?!

  • o, shoot! just read in the comments and saw you couldn't donate. better luck next time!!

  • Hope I didn't pass right out;)

  • @purpleamethyst76 - that's too funny and sorta true:):)

  • I have never given blood. I know. I am sure I will keel over if I did. (That's what I think!)

    Oliver is adorable.

  • I have never given blood. Needles don't bother me, having my blood drawn doesn't bother me, but fear of passing out after giving blood terrifies me and keeps me from giving.

  • I hate the part about them searching for a vein and always drink a ton of water when I have a blood test.  Oliver is absolutely adorable.

  • I would never give blood. A lot of people have gotten AIDS that way.

  •  I used to donate all the time till I took too many medications too.

  • like the pictures. sometimes i will have noodles for breakfast. kudos to you for giving blood ;)

  • ADORABLE---the wonky pants leg gets me. because it's something that i've ALWAYS noticed as a mom.
and now we are down to having just one wonky pants leg. (sniff)
