  • Crater of Diamonds State Park

That's where Thomas wanted to have his Birthday party this year. So on Saturday, Steven and I took our 5 boys plus two of Thomas's friends on a mini road trip to dig in the dirt. Our trip yielded no diamonds, but we had fun and got some pretty rocks. I guess you can't ask for more than that.

  • what pretty rocks-I have a few rocks on my dresser right now that my dogs brought in the house and also a nose from a stuffed animal that I got from my dog's mouth

  • ps Happy Birthday Thomas and what an interesting place to have your birthday party

  • I like playing in the dirt when it comes to my gardens.

    Happy Birthday to your son...

  • Thomas must be a brilliant boy!  The rocks are beautiful! What a fun birthday idea!!!

  • What FUN it is to dig for diamonds -- the boys all looked as if they were having a great time!

When I was about 8, my parents bought their home -- there was a huge mound in the back yard that they wanted to reduce in size. We had been reading Tom Sawyer, and Daddy  had the brilliant idea that he could get his two daughters to dig the pile down to where he wanted it by telling them there was treasure buried part way down.  When the mound was about the right size, he buried a box full of old army medals, coins, etc for us to find!  I never knew for many years afterwards how he had tricked us!

  • Was that a Titanic cake?

  • @Wildflowersp - yes, it was. We do a lot of Titanic talk around here.

  • @aSeriesofFortunateEvents - My Thomas liked your cake. He is also a Titanic aficionado.

  • @Wildflowersp - Oh boy. I just printed it out and took it to Kroger and they did that edible picture thing. After Alex's Dr. Who cake last fall and this,  It's really elevating our cake expectations around here.
